Strange Fruit

$25.00

Description / Artist Statement

Named after the iconic protest song, Strange Fruit examines the historical and ongoing objectification of Black bodies. Through fragmented imagery of bodies, adornment, and landscape, the work addresses themes of visibility, vulnerability, and cultural memory.

The composition intentionally withholds a complete figure, emphasizing fragmentation and absence. By drawing connections between beauty, consumption, and historical violence, the work asks viewers to consider how Black bodies continue to be viewed, valued, and controlled.

Measurements / Details

Mixed-media collage on paper.

Additional Notes

Inspired by the legacy of Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" and conversations surrounding race, representation, and bodily autonomy.
